Fashion Week Cleveland held their 11th annual runway show on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade where work from eight designers were showcased. The models wore a variety of styles including street style, punk, and swimwear. The designers this year were : Victoria Cohen, DeAndre Crenshaw, Johnathan Dembowski, Christian and Christpher Lett, Cora Mercer, Chikondi Butao Mielemba, Bridgette Schriner, and featured designer Althea Harper from Project Runway.
My thoughts on this experience as a model for Fashion Week Cleveland (FWC) : Overall, the runway show went pretty smoothly and the hard work put in by the designers were indeed reflected through their respective clothing showcased. More than 150 guests attended the show and many were impressed with the work of these eight designers. The designers that I modeled for – Christian and Christopher Lett – are talented, young men who created Mud Made. Est. 2014, an urban and streetwear clothing company from Ohio. Their latest clothing collection includes jerseys, customized hoodies, hats, etc. mixed with touches of luxury (heels, gold chains..).Their style is unique and reflects the sporty chic with sophistication. Personally, I felt that being a model for FWC was a very time-consuming experience at times, one in which we were not compensated for monetarily, or any other form of a gift. Moreover, we had to witness some coordinators, make-up artists, and hairstylists that simply did not know what they were doing throughout our FWC modeling experiences. A lot of time was wasted and many models were still left confused as to what to do even before the show started. My first time being a runway model has left me quite disappointed as to how the experience turned out. My husband and I had to drive 2 hours to Cleveland, 3 weekends in a row, for me to attend rehearsals, make-up trials and hairstyling only to experience the inefficiency of many people of higher authority. Despite all of this, I enjoyed modeling for my fashion designers and seeing the various styles of clothing from each designer showcased on the runway. I was also able to connect with many wonderful people – both models and designers – to help them gain a better insight of my fashion brand, Madly Fashionable. This was, overall, a great and eventful experience for me.
