Beauty Review : Julep Nail Polish

Hey ladies! I signed up for a Julep subscription 2 weeks ago and my first “Welcome Box” arrived within 3 days, free of charge (I only had to pay shipping cost of $2.99). The packaging of the box was very pretty and also included a “50% off your next purchase” discount perk plus a little booklet full of information about Julep products.

I tested the nail polishes last Thursday and found them very easy to apply. I particularly liked how the color of the “Vicki – Classic with a Twist” turned out. The pink was bright and definitely a good color for this season. The texture of the nail polishes was very smooth, even and pigmented. The smell wasn’t too strong either unlike some nail polishes that contain strong odors. In terms of the drying process, I let my nails air-dry by the window and it took around 2.5 minutes to fully dry.

NOTE: I did not use a base coat or top coat as I wanted to test the true staying power of these polishes after 7 days. Also, I only applied a single layer of polish to my nails in this experiment.

In those 7 days, I did a lot of washing dishes, cleaning, showering etc.  As you can see, some chipping occured but overall, the nail polish stayed on very well without any top or base coats. This was my first time using Julep nail polish and I would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy bright, summery colors and want longer-lasting nail polish.

Nothing can be worse than detecting a chip however minor it is just after you have had your nails done, right? So, I’ve put together a list of useful tips below to help your nail polish last longer.

Tips to Make Your Nail Polish Last Longer

  1. Before starting to apply nail polish, remember to remove all traces of the old nail polish. Even if your nails are devoid of any older polish, it is recommended to dip a cotton ball in nail polish remover and rub it on your bare nails. This will help in getting rid of any traces of oil and hence make the polish stick to your nails rather than to the oil.
  2. Apply a base coat before applying nail polish. This will not only make your nail polish last longer but will also prevent yellow-ness of nails. Julep has 2 really good base coats : Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat and Oxygen Bonding Base Coat.
  3. Always apply double coat of a nail polish. However dark the shade is, a double coat is a must.
  4. Apply the second only after the first coat is completely dry.
  5. Apply your nail polish in thin layers. Thick layers tend to peel off.
  6. In order to delay chipping from the outer edges, lock your polish by applying it from the tip of your nails to under your nails. This will create a “cover” over your edges and hence, delay it from chipping.
  7. Apply a transparent top coat over your nail polish. This will not only add an extra protective layer but will also impart a gloss to your nails. You can find some very good top coats and other nail treatments from Julep here.
  8. Dipping your nails in ice water (after applying the nail polish) can help to solidify the nail polish.
  9. Always keep your hands moisturized.
  10. Avoid using your fingernails to remove staple wires or open canned drinks. This was obvious but worth mentioning 😉

Hope all of this information was helpful to everyone!
