New York Fashion Week 2016 Recap

The New York Fashion Week Fall 2016 shows that have just ended consisted of some pretty memorable moments to add to our recollections and our scrapbooks of fashion, ranging from the inspirations of the designers in their creations and use of models to the use of intriguing mechanisms to get a point across. While some sets were pretty out of this world, others were just plain but had their feature presentations make the mark on our memories. As such, I have pulled together some of the most memorable moments from the different fashion week shows that went on stage these past few days, marking the start of the fashion month.

First on my list is the Zac Posen show which focused on models of color, his inspiration stemming from African princesses and his mind on the beauty of diversity that we see on a daily basis.

Next comes to a show staged on an actual cruise ship, something that Tommy Hilfiger pulled off and with great tenacity too! His theme was nautical and so was his set as he fused fashion and entertainment once again. In the brand’s own words, Tommy Hilfiger is married to fashionable entertainment.

Alexander Wang, long known for his rebellious fashion, really stepped it up a notch with his rocker girls and graphics, deliberately opposing the standard definitions of beauty and tastes, imploring the ladies to ignore outdated taboos and instead seek out that which is off-limits.

Vampires stormed the runway at the Fenty x Rihanna show, with some of the ensembles that made camel toes look good, bringing in the athleisure, but also the dark and the attitude-driven. It was very gothic and there was a certain sense of come hither throughout it all.

Finally, we cannot forget Kanye West’s giant concert at Madison Square, where he unveiled his athleisure line of Yeezy Season 3, as well as his new album called “The Life of Pablo”, which will be exclusively available on Tidal and never sold otherwise. At some points it seemed as though we were staring at zombies, which seemed a little scary.
